WHY DÜSSELDORF? Michael Mühlin

Since early 2021, Michael Mühlin has been the owner of Rhein-Taxi, a Düsseldorf taxi company with more than 150 vehicles and 500 chauffeurs. Born in Upper Franconia, he has travelled the world a lot, including living in the desert near Dubai and sailing the Mediterranean for four years - but for good reasons he was always drawn back to the Rhineland.

What makes Düsseldorf so special?

The diversity of art, culture and entertainment, coupled with exciting international companies, give the city its charm for me. As a person who loves to travel, I really appreciate the international flair. And I also like the way Düsseldorfers connect with their customs.

My relationship to Düsseldorf?

In this city I don‘t feel too far away from the action, it has a bit of a cosmopolitan flair for me.

Düsseldorf in three words

Is. not. boring.

Düsseldorf is a taxi city because...

I think Rhein-Taxi stands for Düsseldorf, we are part of the cosmopolitan tradition. That‘s why we have so many regular customers: People who enjoy a chat with our chauffeurs, who want to be respected and who want to reach their destination competently and safely. This ranges from the older generation to people from the LGBTQ+ scene to parents who entrust us with their children. Düsseldorf is not only a taxi city because of the trade show and the old town!

What are important measures to make Düsseldorf more climate-friendly?

The e-charging infrastructure for business - and not only for private transport - must be expanded, because the biggest contributors to air pollution in traffic are, for example, parcel transporters, buses and taxis - they reel off the most kilometres and often clog up the roads. As a passionate cyclist, I also think that cycle paths must be expanded and made safer. It is not acceptable, for example, that paths stop directly at accident black spots!

This is where I find inspiration in Düsseldorf

In the morning when I‘m running along the Rhine, I am able to go over my projects in my head. I relish it - it‘s pure bliss!

This is where I get in a good mood

I love being on the city beach at the Tonhalle and listening to the live music.

This is where I meet interesting people

In the Altbier pubs, where it doesn‘t matter what professional background you have and people have good conversations. •
