THIS IS REISHOLZ!
THIS IS REISHOLZ!

Located around seven kilometres south-east of Düsseldorf city centre, Reisholz is a district with industrial DNA. Along with its neighbouring districts of Holthausen (home to Reisholz harbour and the Henkel headquarters) and Benrath, it shares the large industrial area in the south of Düsseldorf. At the same time, this relatively small district is changing: where the Vallourec Germany press works once dominated the townscape, numerous international logistics companies now stand alongside former factory housing. Nestled between factory sites, business parks and retail markets, the district is reinventing itself while remaining true to its history. This neighbourhood, where people live and work, is typical of Reisholz and is bypassed by heavy traffic. The district centre is Henkelstraße, which has shops for everyday needs. Culturally, there is also a lot going on: concerts, readings and courses are held in the Bürgerhaus, a former cinema. The district's silhouette is changing slowly but steadily. Reisholz is small, colourful – and has plenty of room for new things.

THIS IS LIERENFELD!
THIS IS LIERENFELD!

What was once a densely wooded area with very few inhabitants (only around 200 in 1850!) is still heavily industrialised: the area of manufacturing industry in the south-eastern part of Lierenfeld is almost twice as large as the residential area! However, a lot has been done in recent years to improve the residential area - for example, the renovation of the Heimgarten estate, a 1920s development. Lierenfeld is also a multicultural neighbourhood: of the 11,000 or so residents, around 58 per cent have a migrant background, mainly Turkish, Syrian or Greek. This makes for a huge variety of places to eat and shop. The district is very popular with young people: at the end of the 1980s, concerts and parties moved into the empty factory halls. A former Mannesmann factory was transformed into the multifunctional venue Stahlwerk, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. Since the end of the 2010s, artists and creative businesses have increasingly been drawn to the district, which still has spacious lofts, factory halls and back courtyards. In short, Lierenfeld is an extremely diverse part of Düsseldorf with an enormous capacity for change.

THIS IS HEERDT!
THIS IS HEERDT!

The westernmost part of the city, first mentioned in the 11th century, is also affectionately known as the “village in Düsseldorf”. This is particularly true of Heerdt around Nikolaus-Knopp-Platz: in the centre of Alt-Heerdt you will find a neo-Gothic church, many rustic buildings and, of course, plenty of shopping. Heerdt is also very green: the 2.5-hectare Rheinpark, for example, is a popular local recreation area, and since the 1980s the residents have been involved in the “Ökotop”, a mixture of natural recreation area and ecological settlement with a meeting centre. In addition to this idyllic aspect of the district, Heerdt also has an industrial and commercial side to it. Heerdt’s southern part, which extends to the Neuss harbour area, is characterised by such areas, which are also home to a number of large companies. It's in the north that the structural change is most evident, whether it's the new “Heinrich Heine Gardens” residential area or the neighbouring “Areal Böhler”, which has transformed itself in just a few years from an industrial site into a major commercial, trade fair and events location. Düsseldorf's village is not only diverse, it is also undergoing an interesting transformation.
