Flingern Nord is the more unconventional counterpart to Flingern Süd. With a greater number of residential buildings and turn-of-the-century façades, the heart of the neighbourhood lies around Birkenstraße, Ackerstraße and Hermannplatz. There, an urban community of cafés, independent shops and creative businesses has sprung up, often in charming courtyards. A remarkably vibrant gallery scene has also emerged here over the years, and continues to shape the neighbourhood's creative character to this day. At the same time, Flingern Nord extends far beyond its trendy centre. To the north and east, the district borders Düsseltal, Grafenberg and Gerresheim. On the border with Lierenfeld is the home of Fortuna Düsseldorf. The club’s headquarters remain in the Toni-Turek-Haus on Flinger Broich. The club was originally founded under the name ‘Turnverein Flingern 1895’. On the border with Grafenberg, restaurateurs, wholesalers, and local kiosk operators shape daily life around the Metro cash-and-carry market. This natural coexistence of galleries, industrial estates, club history and everyday urban life is precisely what defines Flingern Nord: the neighbourhood feels at once creative, down-to-earth and vibrant.
