THE FUTURE OF GREENTECH IS BUILT IN DÜSSELDORF
Düsseldorf is becoming one of Germany's leading GreenTech locations. The city's innovation ecosystem is making that ambition tangible. At Future Tech Fest 2026, the GreenTech Stage brings together the people and ideas driving sustainable transformation.
Germany's GreenTech sector is gaining momentum. According to the GreenTech Monitor 2026, around 2,900 GreenTech startups are currently active nationwide, with more than 100 new companies founded in the energy sector in 2025 alone. Energy and environmental technologies now account for 41% of the market, underscoring the economic relevance of sustainable innovation.
North Rhine-Westphalia has established itself as one of Ger-many's leading GreenTech regions, alongside hubs such as Berlin and Munich. Düsseldorf ranks among Germany's top ten cities for GreenTech startups and continues to strengthen its profile as a center for sustainable innovation. Theresa Winkels, Head of the Office of Economic Development Düsseldorf, emphasizes this development: “Düsseldorf lies at the heart of NRW, Germany’s economic powerhouse — not only geographically, but also as a driver of innovation and international business. Our global trade fairs, strong academic landscape, international business network, and highly connected ecosystem make Düsseldorf a natural home for GreenTech pioneers.”
A key driver of this ecosystem is the Digital Innovation Hub Düsseldorf/Rhineland (digihub), the region’s central platform for digital innovation, startups, and strategic matchmaking. In 2024, digihub was selected for the German de:hub initiative and now serves as Germany’s official GreenTech hub.
Startup Week Düsseldorf – hosted by the Office of Economic Development – has grown from a regional initiative into a leading platform for founders and innovators well beyond the city. Now entering its eleventh edition in 2026 (7–11 September), the event is strengthening its position as a platform for innovation, entrepreneurship, and future technologies. It enters a new phase with a stronger international focus, a refreshed brand identity, and closer integration into the broader innovation ecosystem.

A key highlight remains the collaboration with Future Tech Fest (10 September 2026) Germany’s largest B2B startup expo. Together, both events create a platform where startups, corporates, investors and technology leaders come together to discuss new technologies, disruptive business models and the future of innovation. Topics such as Artificial Intelligence, GreenTech, HealthTech, and Female Entrepreneurship will play a central role throughout the week. Among these, GreenTech will once again take center stage at Future Tech Fest with the dedicated GreenTech Stage organized by the Office of Economic Development Düsseldorf. Through keynotes, pitches and panel discussions, experts from the regional ecosystem will share insights into trends, opportunities, and challenges within the sector. The morning sessions (starting at 10:30 am) will focus on scaling and financing green growth, including experiences from startups and scaleups. The afternoon session (from 2:30 pm) will highlight Women in GreenTech, increasing visibility for female founders and leaders shaping the future of sustainable innovation.
