WHY DÜSSELDORF –DENIZ SEN

Deniz Sen has been working for Stadtwerke Düsseldorf for 22 years. He started out in the accounting department and, after holding a number of positions and completing a postgraduate course, has now found his way to Employer Branding - where he can let his creativity run wild. In his spare time, the 41-year-old, who was born in Solingen, is a passionate collector of vinyl records and art objects, as well as boxing and football enthusiast.

What characterises Düsseldorf?
It's a mixture of compact and big city. You can get from A to B quickly and the location on the Rhine is beautiful. I also like the many green spaces and the Rhenish culture, which is friendly and welcoming. And it is a multicultural city.

Düsseldorf in three words
Welcoming. Diverse. Creative.

Düsseldorf is a good location for the energy transition because...
...people from politics and business, as well as people with personal commitment, have clearly spoken out in favour of being Climate Capital 2035. They are working together to achieve these goals. The energy transition is taken seriously here, it is not just an empty phrase. I also notice this in my work at the Stadtwerke. We switched to green electricity a good two years ago and have installed more electric charging stations than any other German city - to name just two examples.

Here in Düsseldorf, I get into a good mood
When I'm out and about in my local hood of Flingern with my friends and my girlfriend. We really enjoy the bar and café culture there. I also love the wide range of cultural activities in the city, such as the many small concerts everywhere.

Here in Düsseldorf, I find inspiration
For example, I love going to the “Lotte” in Flingern. Or to Carlsplatz to have a nice afternoon drink. I love people-watching there. I also find it inspiring to visit the local flea markets. And I get a lot of new input from the many networking events, especially for the creative community. Düsseldorf simply has a lot to offer when it comes to bringing people together.

Here in Düsseldorf, I meet interesting people
For example, I meet them at my boxing training at the Ippo Club. Many people from agencies or from the arts and culture scene also train at this special club. After training, I also often have interesting conversations there and meet new people. •
