WHY DÜSSELDORF – NICOLE KARUVALLIL

Nicole Karuvallil has lived in Düsseldorf for almost two decades. After obtaining a degree in Economics from Wuppertal University and a Master's degree in International Management from London University, she embarked on a career in marketing and advertising. Three years ago, while working at digihub Düsseldorf, Nicole discovered her passion for startups, and she has remained committed to this field ever since. She took on the role of managing director at TechHub.K67 on 1 June 2025. She also heads the international recruitment agency Inxpert Talent Bridge.

What makes Düsseldorf special?
On the one hand, it has a modern and trendy cityscape with attractions such as the Media Harbour and Kö-Bogen 2. On the other hand, there are also very peaceful areas, such as the Grafenberger Wald and the Unterbacher See. Added to this is the multicultural aspect, with Little Tokyo and the Spanish Quarter in the Old Town, for example. So, everything you need is right here. But you can also retreat without having to go far.

Düsseldorf in three words:
Elegant. Cosy. Diverse.

Düsseldorf is a good location for a tech hub because...
Firstly, because of its location. It is very well connected, right in the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, which is in the heart of Europe. We have countless companies from a wide range of industries here, as well as a high density of colleges and universities in the immediate vicinity. This is a great starting point for a startup or any company. Secondly, there is a good ecosystem here. Through my work, I have got to know a few other ecosystems and I can say that in Düsseldorf, everyone really works together: the economic development agency, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the universities and all the hubs, such as DigiHub and TechHub. We are well connected, and above all, we provide startups with excellent support. Thirdly, there is the economic potential. There are many companies in and around Düsseldorf, particularly medium-sized ones, that can benefit from startups' expertise and new technologies. We are working hard to ensure that both sides get to know each other even better.

Here in Düsseldorf, I feel happy.
I'm especially in a good mood at all the regular festivals held here. For example, Japan Day and the France Festival, as well as the many smaller neighbourhood events. You can experience a festival of some kind in the city with family and friends almost every weekend.

Here in Düsseldorf, I find inspiration.
My favourite place is Benrath Palace. I love taking a short walk around the pond or admiring the palace from a bench. It relaxes me and sparks my creativity.

Here in Düsseldorf, I meet interesting people.
Definitely at TechHub.K67 and its events. You meet so many young, motivated people there who are passionate about their ideas and innovations. They do everything they can to get ahead and inspire others. New ideas and developments are constantly emerging. That's why I love working there. •
